The Midway After Dark
Bourbon County Fair midway · Paris, Kentucky
It started as his most-viewed Local Guide photo: the Ferris wheel lit up over the midway as the sky went purple. The rest of the file stays sealed until opening night.
Instant film, pins, posts and a few Google Maps reviews, all filed away in a creaky old house at the end of a foggy road. Grab a lantern. Mind the portraits. The van's around back.
🕯ADMIT ONEENTER IF YOU DARE · NO REFUNDS
Welcome, traveler. I'm Shaggy Shaw, and that's the only name I answer to. Cancer survivor, peg-leg pirate with a replacement knee, whitehat and network engineer by trade, Polaroid and Lomo shooter by habit. I've been building websites since the '90s, I still play ham radio and retro games, and I fix up old houses and collect old bottles and vintage license plates. These days I'm also 3D printing, flying drones, building Raspberry Pi projects, bird watching, and being a full-on weather nerd. I know my bourbon, and then I eat my Wheaties. I'm a card collector (sports, non-sports and postcards), I like to pick locks, I've pinned more Scooby-Doo villains than is healthy, and I'm prepared for a zombie apocalypse.
This house is full of me. There's film drying in the darkroom, chili on the stove and bourbon down in the cellar. Old cards sit in the locker room, and the radio still crackles. Every door opens on a different decade, so pick one and mind the stairs.

GOOGLE MAPS REVIEWS · LATE OCT 2026An anonymous tipster swears this skate tape is our guy. The detective isn't buying it: wrong town, wrong stairs, and a much cleaner ollie than the subject could ever land. Probably planted to throw sleuths off the trail. Still… kinda cool.

On March 3, 1876, under a clear sky, chunks of what looked like meat fell over a farm while Mrs. Crouch was out in the yard making soap. The leading suspects: vultures. A preserved sample still exists in Lexington.
Bourbon County, Kentucky · Bourbon Street, New Orleans
Everybody in central Kentucky knows the county story. But that version only shows up in print in the 1870s, and whiskey historian Michael Veach suspects New Orleans. Team County or Team Street?
