Shaggy’s wife’s family store, on West Main Street in Carlisle, Kentucky. The Neal family ran it from 1932 to 2003. Today the old store is the Neal Welcome Center & Museum, and the music hall upstairs still has its old signatures on the walls.

Eugene and Dorothy Rowe Neal, Shaggy’s wife’s great-uncle and great-aunt, were the last to run it. Eugene’s parents were R. W. and Sheila Vice Neal.

Neal obituary, 2002 · Dorothy Rowe Neal obituary, 2008After Eugene died in 2002, Dorothy donated their store building to the Nicholas County Historical Society, to be used as a museum and community center called the Neal Building. That was around 2002–03. The sources disagree on the year: tourism’s welcome center page and Kentucky Living say 2003, and another tourism page says 2002. The Historical Society and Carlisle-Nicholas Co. Tourism restored it to look the way it did in the early 1880s, and it became the Neal Welcome Center & Museum.

Neal’s Duck Pin Alleys.” By late January 1933 the paper said R. W. Neal had opened two “duck” pin alleys in the Sims building on Main Street a month earlier and was putting in another, because business was picking up. Teams were already bowling there: the Doctors beat Sexton’s Cash Store team one Tuesday night, 1526 to 1511.

That little ghost peeking out of the upstairs window in our storefront drawing? That’s just us having fun. Nobody has reported him. Manor lore · unverified
On the recordWe went looking for a published Mozart Hall ghost story in local news, the Carlisle Mercury archive, Kentucky ghost books, ghost-sighting sites and paranormal write-ups. So far, not one has turned up in print. Zoinks.
The building does have a spooky side on the record, though: Neal’s Haunted Trail. It’s a Halloween haunted trail at the Neal Welcome Center put on by the Young Adult Historical Society of Nicholas County, and it was inspired by the vintage Halloween masks that used to be sold at the Neal store. There’s trick-or-treating in the foyer, too. It’s staged scares for a good cause, not a ghost report.
